Evo Hotel is the manifestation of Salt Lake’s youthful spirit. The minimalist hotel rooms, the cozy shared spaces, venturesome amenities and launch pads for your own exploits.

The energy at Boulder Project is palpable. Laughter and hearty jeers and compliments are tossed around in between thumps on the mats. There’s a dichotomy between the wall and a climber. Even when summitted, the wall stands unperturbed. A fallen climber feels rare defeat on the padded floor. There is the eagerness to try again, and the wall dares them, ready with old chalk caked in every groove.

Attempts and space are sacred. Climbers huddle in groups to wait their turn, nursing sore muscles and bruised egos. When two approach at the same time, manners come forth and there is no resentment in the one who secedes.

When a quiet moment is needed in between skateboarding, fitness classes, or grinding in the open gym, there are chairs and couches ready to sink into. There is no wasted space in the hotel. Tables and chairs with outlets galore are ready for remote workers and entrepreneurs alike. While there are no designated desk spaces in the bedrooms and the patio seats would be uncomfortable after a time, the beds are comfy and the lounges have bar desks with views of the Bouldering Project. If inspiration is needed, there are couches to sink into with a good book and nearby vending machines with healthy snacks and drinks.

To fuel or ease assiduous minds, there are two spots available for libations. Curator’s Coffee supplies the caffeine demand, including free coffee for hotel guests. The Crown Bar’s board games and rooftop seats are the place to unwind and reset (mocktails available!).

If Evo Hotel’s plentiful offerings aren’t enough, or fresh air is needed, there are two districts in close proximity that may suffice. A local coffee roaster, a James Beard Award finalist restaurant, ramen, and more are available two blocks to the northeast in the Post District. In the opposite direction is Woodbine Foodhall and across the street, a pizza joint that doesn’t know the meaning of a slow day. Slackwater Pizza SLC are known for their single-portion pizzas and live music through the week. Before or after, Drift Lounge at Woodbine Food Hall is the intimate environment needed to work through a writer’s block.

If you arrive before their 3 o’clock check-in time, you can store your belongings in their lockers or purchase a discounted Boulder Project pass and start unwinding in their showers, sauna, and full facilities. From the outskirts of downtown, Evo Hotel is an unexpected bright spot to spend an author’s getaway or solo trip to Salt Lake City.
